RX - Heartgard Plus Chewables 6 Doses (1-25 lb dogs)

Price per Unit (piece): $29.61

Heartgard Plus is an oral medication used in dogs and puppies as a combination:
  • Heartworm preventive
  • Intestinal wormer

Heartgard Plus kills the immature form of the heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis). It is also used for the treatment and control of hookworms (Ancylostoma caninum, A. braziliense, and Uncinaria stenocephala) and roundworms (ascarids - Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonina).

Ingredients: Heartgard Plus contains two active ingredients: Ivermectin interferes with the parasite's nerve transmission, causing paralysis and death of the immature heartworms (larvae). Pyrantel pamoate also interferes with the parasite's nerve transmission, causing paralysis and death of intestinal worms.

Use: Available as soft, beef-flavored chewable tablets. Heartgard Plus is given by mouth monthly on the same day each month.

For dogs and puppies 6 weeks of age and over. Safe to use in pregnant and nursing dogs.

Administration: Remove only one Heartgard Plus Chewable at a time from the foil-backed blister card. Put the remaining Heartgard Plus Chewables back into the box to protect from light. Most dogs like the taste of Heartgard Plus and will accept the chewable tablet as a treat. The chewable should be administered in a manner that encourages the dog to chew, rather than to swallow without chewing. Heartgard Plus Chewables may be broken into pieces and fed to dogs that normally swallow treats whole. Care should be taken that the dog consumes the complete dose, and treated animals should be observed for a few minutes after administration to ensure that part of the dose is not lost or rejected. If not entirely consumed, give another full recommended dose as soon as possible.

Dosing: Heartgard Plus must be administered monthly, preferably on the same date each month. If a dose is missed and over 30 days have gone by since the last dose, give Heartgard Plus immediately and resume the monthly dosing schedule.

Heartgard Plus may be given year round or only during the mosquito season. If given seasonally, the first dose must be given within 30 days of the dog's first exposure to mosquitoes. The last dose must be given within 30 days after the dog's last exposure to mosquitoes.

Dogs should be tested for heartworm infection before starting a preventive program.

Reminder stickers are included to place on your calendar for each of the months following the date of the first dose.

Switching Heartworm Preventives: If Heartgard Plus replaces another type of heartworm preventive, the first dose must be given within 30 days after the last dose of the previous product.

Storage: Heartgard Plus should be protected from light and stored in a dry place at room temperature, between 59°F and 86°F. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
